When most people think of perishable products that come from the grocery store, industrial printing is usually not at the top of the list. It's the unsung hero of perishable foods and incredibly important. Industrial printers are the devices that label foods and inform the consumer of vital information about the products they're purchasing. And these labels can also help you make better food choices. Here are five reasons why industrial printing matters.
1. Expiration Dates - The most obvious reason is the expiration date. The products that can do the most damage in terms of sickness have to have clearly printed and easily identifiable expiration dates. Milk, eggs, poultry, and so forth must be clearly marked so the consumer can make the soundest choice possible when purchasing perishable products.
2. Sell by dates - Just as important as the expiration date is the 'sell by' date. This can be printed on plastic, such as the kind that bread comes in, and tells the consumer that after this date it's likely the product will go bad soon. As a consumer you can rest assured that because of the 'sell by' date the product you're purchasing is the freshest one the grocer is selling.
3. Barcodes - All packaged products come with a barcode for tracking purposes. It's important for the grocer to control inventory but it's also important for the consumer in case of a food recall. The only way to know which products in a sea of many are the ones to be recalled is because of the barcode.
4. Info about the product - Certain people are concerned with a 'greener' diet that focuses on locally grown foods. The only way to know for sure that the product is locally grown is because of the label. Things like apples and peaches have those little stickers on them that say things like 'product of Chile' or some such statement. If you're concerned about where your food comes from, the label is your go-to for information.
5. Organics - If you're a foodie or you're just trying to make cleaner choices then you've probably considered organic products. The label is important because certain fruits and veggies are sprayed with higher amounts of pesticides. If this is something you're concerned about then purchasing organics is a better choice. But the only way to know if something is organic or not is because of the label.
Even though everyone looks at the labels of the products they buy, most people do not consider where those labels come from. Because of industrial printers, you are able to make better choices for perishable items. Whether you're concerned with location of where the food was grown or the expiration date, industrial printing will help you make the choices that are right for you.
